Taking a Break After a Week of Cooking School

August 15th, 2009 by Career seeker

relaxing from cooking school Man, I am so happy it is Saturday.  I know for most people, the weekend really means nothing anymore, since a large number of people work during the weekend.  But for me, I have been enjoying my weekends off since I returned to school to work on my culinary education.

I did face a lot of skepticism from my parents when I told them that I wanted to attend one of the most prestigious cooking schools in the country in hopes of attaining my dream of being a professional chef.  My father was the worst as he had always wanted me to follow in his footsteps and be a plumber.

But my calling was cooking and for that I am truly grateful.  There is just something magical when you see the delight on your customers faces when they take the first bite of your creation – you know that you have made their lives just a little bit better.

Even though I do enjoy school, I do enjoy the break that the weekend provides.  It seems that I don’t have a free moment during the week, so when Saturday rolls around I usually let out a big sigh of relief.

Do you want to know my plans for the weekend?  Well, that is easy: I am going to relax.  Monday will be here too soon.

Have Your Employees Hang Their Diplomas

June 21st, 2009 by Best

As an office manager, one of the things that you should do is to encourage your employees to hang their college diplomas on the wall. There are some professions where this is common (like with doctors) but all different types of businesses can benefit from engaging in this practice.

When customers see that there are university diploma frames hanging on the wall, they automatically feel like the people they are working with are experts in their field. It doesn’t even really matter what the diploma is for. It could be simply for a certificate program instead of an actual college degree. It just matters that your employees are showing off the fact that they received an education in the subject they’re now working in.

Having employees hang their diplomas is also good for the employees. It makes them feel proud of their accomplishments. It reminds them that they have worked hard to get to where they are today. This can boost the sense of morale in the office. These benefits will benefit the business as a whole. Of course, you shouldn’t require that employees do this. It should be their choice. But it’s worth it to strongly suggest that diplomas be hung up.

Becoming LEED accredited in San Francisco

June 17th, 2009 by bestCs

Recently a good friend of mine, and fellow contractor decided he was going to take his business and career by the horns and become leed accredited. He has felt for a long time that becoming a more environmentally conscious builder was something that was appealing so he began the process of looking into what the accreditation might require.

His biggest concerns had to do with whether or not he could afford the courses and to take the examinations. Next he was hoping that he would have the spare time to devote to effective study. He definitely did not want to simply pay some money and get a certificate.

Instead, he looked into the Everblue Training Institute. He overheard some one at a recent contractors day convention talking about them and all they offer. And since we are just a couple of hours north of San Francisco, he figured it might be an easy enough commitment to heading down to The City a couple of times a week. In fact, if I remember correctly, he had a close cousin living in the Bay Area so he could stay there if necessary.

All that is left now is to sign up and start studying. I must admit, in fact, that I’m a bit jealous and may have to ride down and take classes with him.
