Internships and Externships for Health Care Training Programs
May 13th, 2008 by Best

If you are getting an education through one of America’s health care training programs, you need to make sure that you take advantage of any opportunities available to gain hands-on experience through internships and externships. It is these programs that will help you determine whether or not the health care field really suits you. Plus this experience is going to look really good on a resume when it comes time for graduation.
Internships are traditionally available through both your school and through individual health care centers in the area. For example, if you were attending Sanford Brown Institute Ft. Lauderdale, you could check with the school for internship placement opportunities. Alternatively you could look at the job boards for medical centers in Ft. Lauderdale that might be advertising internship jobs.
Externships are typically only available through your school. For example, Sanford Brown Collinsville places its students in externships as part of its standard class curriculum. Externships are generally shorter than internships, requiring less of a commitment by the student. On the other hand, internships may either pay you a stipend or allow you to get class credit. Either way, both types of programs are an important supplement to the health care education you’ll be getting.
