Srinagar August 30 (Vijay Kumar)- Jammu and Kashmir’s lone woman Minister for Social Welfare, Miss Sakina Itoo on Sunday said that during the past decades the number of persons with intellectual disabilities has increased. She said that it is the need of the hour to train the parents of disabled children so that these disabled persons are able to discharge their day to day activities smoothly.

She was speaking on the occasion of inauguration of  MEDFEST screening camp in Srinagar.The aim of the camp was to screen the Special Healthy Athletes and provide a platform to the persons with intellectual disabilities to display their talent at the State, National and International Sports Events organized by Special Olympics Committee.The camp was organized by Special Olympic Bharat (SOB) in collaboration with Shafaqat Special School, Bemina under Healthy Athletes Programme for persons with intellectual disabilities.

            Speaking on the occasion Miss. Itoo lauded the role of Special Olympic Bharat for expanding  such a noble mission to the State. She said that the State Government has initiated various reformative programmes to benefit the special section of the society. She assured that the government would extend all sort of help to the Organization. She urged upon the Organizer to continue with such efforts and reach out to the remotest areas of the State to attend such persons.

           She said that the government is contemplating to implement “special treatment for special children” scheme in the State which would help the children with intellectual disabilities. She presented a cheques amounting Rs.30,000/- from her salary for purchase of sports materials for these children.

           State President SOB, Dr. Ashwani Jojra in welcome address dwelt in detail about the activities of the SOB in the State. He said that 206 special athletes mentally and intellectually were screened.  He further told that recently same kind of Mega Medical camp “Special Smiles” for oral health was held under the Healthy Athletes programme at Jammu where 400 persons with intellectual disabilities were screened.  While paying tribute to late Mrs. Eunice Shriver Kennedy, the founder of the Special Olympics, said that the Organization would fulfill her dreams by exploring the hidden talent of persons with intellectual disabilities through medium of sports.

            President, Gandhi Global Family,. S. P. Verma said that the unique movement must be strengthened in Kashmir where Gandhiji saw ray of hope. He appealed the people of the state to come forward to make this movement a grand success.. He said that social work was also initiated by  Sheikh-ul-Alam(RA) and father of nation Mahatma Gandhi. He hoped that the day is not far away when Special Athletes would bring  laurel to the State by winning medals in sports events. He announced two awards for encouraging voluntarily social service to  Dr. Sunil. K. Khetterpal of New Delhi and Voluntary Medicare Society.

            Earlier, the function commenced with lighting of traditional lamp by Chief Guest and other dignitaries

Jammu, September 26 (Vijay Kumar) – Various political leaders have welcomed the decision of the Union Minister for Human Resources,Kapil Sibal,to set up two central universities in Jammu and Kashmir.The state BJP State President Ashok Khajuria on Saturday said that with the HRD ministry’s final node to establish Central University in Jammu , the people of Jammu have registered one more victory and made it clear that the Kashmiri leaders can not take them for granted any more.

The state BJP today celebrated the opening of Central University in Jammu with party leaders dancing to the drum beats and distributing sweets at party headquarters.While addressing the party activists on this occasion Khajuria  said the real credit for getting Central University goes to the Central University Andolan Samiti (CUAS) which spearheaded the movement on the issue after bringing all the social, political and student organizations under its umbrella. The Samiti’s struggle forced the Union government to fulfil the commitment of setting up of a Central University in Jammu and not to tinker with the original decision.

He said the BJP is not against establishment of Central University in Kashmir valley but it would like to ask the present and previous governments in the state as what role they had played for seeking establishments of important institutions for Jammu when they were set up in the valley. Institutions like Regional Engineering College, Shere-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Bones & Joints Hospital were sanctioned for Kashmir and even International standard was accorded to Srinagar Airport, but none of the ministers /legislators hailing from the soil of Jammu in the governments then pleaded for setting up of such institutions in Jammu to remove the regional imbalance, Khajuria alleged.

 He also referred to investments by central government on various projects in Kashmir including water bodies while ignoring Jammu. Have the leaders in the government ever tried to remove such discriminations with Jammu, Khajuria asked ? If Jammu has now various institutions or projects, it is because of the struggle launched by the people of Jammu from time to time. He also regretted the role of Jammu ministers and legislators of Congress/NC for acting as sycophant to the ruling dispensations, which have always been Kashmir-centric. The BJP Chief appealed the people of Jammu to display the same unity which they had shown during the Darbar Move agitation, the Amarnath land row and the present one, to ensure justice and end of discrimination with Jammu.

Meanwhile Vice Chairman Panthers Party,Harsh Dev Singh,today said that the central Government has taken the right steps in defusing regional tension and conflict that had started destabilising peace in the state. Harsh Dev said that by clearing two central universities the Government has spared people of the state from odds and violence which they witnessed during the Amarnath land row last year.He said it seems that for the first time the state and the central Governments have taken cognisance of the regional aspirations.He said that hitherto people belonging to the Jammu region had been given a raw deal in every sphere of Government activity.He hoped that in future too the Government will not do anything that will hurt regional aspirations of the people of Jammu

On the Other hand Prof. Bhim Singh, Chairman of Panthers Party accused Central and the Congress-NC leadership in Jammu and Kashmir for playing fraud with the people of Jammu province as they have been doing for the past six decades.He equated HRD Minister’s declaration of two Central Universities in J&K as synonymous to robbing Peter and paying Paul.

However, the Centre’s trick may cost them heavily by this declaration as this literally amounts to accepting the existence of two states within a state. With the creation of two Central Universities in Jammu and in Srinagar, the Centre has accepted the existence of two political and geographical entities in the State of Jammu and Kashmir as they existed before the Treaty of Aitsar in 1846.

Congress and National Conference leaders appr eciated the role the PCC Chief.Saif-ud-Din Soz,and the Chif Minister,Omar Abdullah played in securing two central universities for the state.The party leaders said that “had not soz and Omar pleaded the case effect ively with Sibal and Manmohan Singh,”the state would have lost the right to have even one central university.”The party leaders wanted the state Government to identify land for the two projects so that whatever time had been wasted was made up by taking in hand the construction work of the two projects.

A diploma mill is an institution which you can attend in order to receive a degree in many different areas of study. It looks a lot like a real college although it’s often a college that you attend solely online. The problem is that these schools are for-profit schools that don’t follow the regulations and standards that real colleges follow. They take your money and give you a diploma. If the school is a diploma mill, your college degree doesn’t count for much. And if you hang that diploma on the wall, people who see it may realize that you didn’t attend a real school.

Hopefully you did your homework before you applied to college. As long as the school that you attended was accredited then you have nothing to worry about (even if you did your whole degree online). If you have a diploma from a real school then go right ahead and hang it up. You should be proud!

2. Underdeveloped Economy
3. Developing Economy

1. Developed Economy
Developed Economy refers to that economy where the level of national income and the per capita income is very high as well as high production, consumption, savings and investment. As a result, people living in developed economies have a higher standard of living, e.g. U.K, USA, Australia, Canada, etc. are examples of developed economy where people have a very high standard of living.

2. Underdeveloped Economy
Underdeveloped Economy is one where the level of income and the per capita income is very low. The reason for low national income and per capita income is either the unavailability of sufficient resources or under-utilization or non-utilization of resources on account of low level of technology. This situation results in low capital formation and technical development resulting in poor standard of living in the economy. According to a report, 2/3rd of the population falls under the underdeveloped economy.

3. Developing Economy
Developing economy is one where the per capita income and the national income are neither too low nor too high. In other words, a developing economy has a rising per capita income and national income. Such an economy, utilizes its resources and with the use of modern technology tries to achieve a higher economic growth rate. People living in developing economy enjoy better living of standard as compared to underdeveloped economy, e.g. India is a developing economy that has a lot of natural resources but due to absence of improved technology, these resources remain unutilized.

We make many choices in our lives that often lead to a similar scenario, from picking friends, to taking a job, to attending a workshop. It sounded (or looked) great, but later you found out it wasn’t as it seemed. Don’t judge a book by its cover.

This is so much like compulsive shopping. I’ve written about this subject before, but after seeing the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic recently, I think the subject is worth a second look.

I found the movie fairly entertaining. From the title, it’s easy to figure out what the movie’s about. It’s a story of a young, career minded woman who can’t control her spending. She buys and buys and buys. Her apartment is chock-full of clothes, purses, shoes etc.

Compulsive shoppers are driven to buy, whereas “normal” people purchase what they need and what they can afford. Shopping and buying act as “fixes” for spenders. When the “high” wears off, the urge to spend returns.

This was clearly the case for “Becky” in the movie. What disturbed me was that people laughed. It was seen as entertaining that piles of clothes fell out of her closet, that the creditors were chasing her down, and Becky had the ability to dodge them … at least for most of the movie.

And, like the pretty red apple, she was perfect on the outside. She wore beautiful clothes and everything matched; the envy of anyone around her… until it started to unravel. Then you saw the ugly, rotten part.

Well, I don’t want to spoil it for you, but to make my point, it all ended well. She paid her creditor and got the man and still dressed beautifully.

Unfortunately, this is not the true life of a compulsive spender. It can get much uglier and take much, much longer to reach a positive outcome, if ever.

In today’s economy, when money is tight, the Shopaholics continue to be in full force; shopping for sales and in thrift stores, which can give an extra hit: “Look at the bargain I just got!”

I recognize this disorder in the behavior. It’s not so much about how much money someone spends, but it’s the mood-altering effect that compulsive shopping has on an individual.

These questions can give you some insight into your own shopping behavior:

1. If you have money left at the end of the month, do you spend it?
2. Do you make minimum payments on your credit cards?
3. Do you feel anxious or nervous on days you are not shopping?
4. Does buying something make you feel better?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, please take a look at your behavior. Decide that the next time you have the urge to spend, you’ll stop and explore the feeling behind that “urge.”

This is an opportunity to dig for gold to find out what’s missing in your life and to seek it out. It’s not about buying another pair of black shoes.

Take the time to explore and gain an understanding of why you spend the way you do. You can either write about it or talk to a trained professional, or a trusted friend. Seek help. Like in the movie, there is a solution.

Never, and I mean never, use the money from the ten per cent you are saving for yourself to buy that refrigerator we where talking about. Instead do it as if you had already purchased the fridge with your credit card, pay a monthly fee to that account. That way you are true to the concept of saving money which is meant for retirement or for an emergency, and not just saving up to buy stuff.

After you have saved up and have had the good insight of keeping track on how is it that the paycheck is spent, and saved up quite a bit of money, the tricky part starts. Keeping the money in your checking account or savings account will not get you anywhere, it will actually make you loose money, that is because of inflation and the bank fees. Learning what to invest your hard earned savings will require some knowledge, but it is really recommended that you instead get an advice from a trusted professional and put that money to work, by investing in something, but that is the subject of a different article.
