Choosing my own path
February 21st, 2009 by Becars
When I told my parents that I was going to be taking some classes at a local art school in the fall, they weren’t very happy with me. Both of my parents had always wanted me to pick what they thought was a “solid” career, like accounting or law. But I had no interest in either of those careers, or any like them and decided that I was going to pick something that I loved doing, which was cooking.
Now, there are lots of culinary schools out there, but I decided to go with one that was part of a larger art school curriculum. I like the idea of learning my craft but also being able to dabble in other creative mediums such as photography and animation. They also have a top notch fashion school on campus that my girlfriend is applying to. With our career goals so different from one another, we never dreamt we’d be able to attend the same school.
I’m sure once my parents get used to the idea, they’ll be on board. Besides, the school is so close I’ll be able to come home on the week ends and try out some of my recipes on them.
