Studying On the Beaches Of Tampa

June 30th, 2008 by BC

If there was a way to combine my love for medicine with my love for beaches, I would take advantage of it in an instant. They often say that the school is more important than the location, but give me a school in a prime location and I’ll give you a person that is happy when he studies (and happiness, as any psychology textbook will tell you, leads to better grades).

Luckily there is, at college is Florida like the Tampa Sanford Brown Institute. There you can find career training in the medical field in an area of the country complete with nice weather and nice beaches. I plan on saving up my money before I go, buying a highly battery powered notebook computer and camping out on the beach every night to study.

You can trust me – the work will get done. And since it is done on the beach, my “all nighters” will consist of me watching the sunset over the ocean, studying in a nearby 24 hour coffee shop, and spending an hour or two bathing in the ocean before going to class.

I cannot think of anything more exciting than the idea of enjoying both the sun and school at the same time. This is going to be fun.

The Small College Take the Bigger Loads

June 26th, 2008 by BC

New York’s big name colleges, like Columbia and NYU, are the colleges that tend to get the most press. They have graduates that are well known scientists and writers, all of whom tout their degrees on a frequent basis as if to show that they have accomplished something huge.

But it is the smaller private schools in New York that should get credit for teaching the newest generation of difference makers. The people that graduate from the smaller schools like Sanford Brown NY are the people that do all of the action behind the scenes, working directly with medical patients and learning the technology that helps the graduates from the bigger schools do their job effectively.

If the graduates from the big brain colleges are the brain, then the graduates from the smaller colleges are the brawn, and the body, and the heart. The science may be left to those with advanced degrees, but the practice the graduates from the private schools are the people that take that theory and convert it to practice. Without those graduates, all there would be is ideas, with no one available to take those ideas and use them in a manner that is best for mankind.

Upgrading my Education

June 25th, 2008 by BC

When I was young, I started working as a receptionist at a busy doctor’s clinic in Houston. I loved the job from day one and I knew that I would be happy working there. I got to know all of the physicians very well and all of the people at the clinic were like an extension of my own family.

I had been working there for about twelve years when the State laws changed, making it mandatory for people working in my profession to have completed a certificate program in the field. Not willing to let go of the job that I loved, I decided to seriously look into medical assistant programs in Houston.

I took evening classes, which allowed me to continue working in the office during the day. I think that my many years of experience were helpful when it came to the course and I passed well above the class average. I completed the course and am happy in the knowledge that I can work there for as long as I want the job.

Internships and Externships for Health Care Training Programs

May 13th, 2008 by Best

If you are getting an education through one of America’s health care training programs, you need to make sure that you take advantage of any opportunities available to gain hands-on experience through internships and externships. It is these programs that will help you determine whether or not the health care field really suits you. Plus this experience is going to look really good on a resume when it comes time for graduation.

Internships are traditionally available through both your school and through individual health care centers in the area. For example, if you were attending Sanford Brown Institute Ft. Lauderdale, you could check with the school for internship placement opportunities. Alternatively you could look at the job boards for medical centers in Ft. Lauderdale that might be advertising internship jobs.

Externships are typically only available through your school. For example, Sanford Brown Collinsville places its students in externships as part of its standard class curriculum. Externships are generally shorter than internships, requiring less of a commitment by the student. On the other hand, internships may either pay you a stipend or allow you to get class credit. Either way, both types of programs are an important supplement to the health care education you’ll be getting.
