Improve Learning with In Home Northern Virginia Tutoring Services

July 27th, 2008 by BC

Some students simply have difficulty learning in the classroom. They may be able to read on their own and complete the assignments when given as homework, but when it comes to lectures and learning in the classroom, they have difficulty deciphering the important information. Because of this, it might be best if the student receives Northern Virginia tutoring services to help them learn the subjects that they are having difficulty with.

The nice thing about most Northern Virginia private tutoring services is that they are able to teach children from the comfort of their own home. Most children are most comfortable in their own house and Montgomery County tutoring services know this, therefore they take the learning right inside the home. One benefit to teaching a child in the comfort of their own home is that it can get the whole family involved in the learning process. Parents can learn different skills and techniques to help their children with homework assignments. Teaching a student in their own home is mutually beneficial for the parents and the child because the student is given reinforcement at home helping them to succeed in the classroom and the parents have the satisfaction of knowing they can help their child succeed.

Choosing a Photographer for Your Graduation Photos

June 28th, 2008 by bCar

Graduating from high school or college is an exciting thing.  You’ve earned the right to feel proud of this and to brag a little.  One of the best ways is to pay for professional graduation photos.  However, you don’t want just anyone to take these important portraits.  Here are a few ways to make sure you get the best professional photographer to do your graduation photos.

  • Ask about his photography degree.  Unless he has an astonishing amount of experience and a stunning portfolio, you’ll probably want to look for a photographer with a degree from a good school, such as the Brooks photography school.  This demonstrates that he really does know what he’s doing — and believe me, you don’t want these pictures messed up!
  • Ask about his experience.  Even if he has a degree, some amount of experience is good.  Ask how many years of experience he has as a professional photographer — whether working in someone else’s photography studio or running his own studio, you’ll want to make sure he has a history of getting paid as a professional photographer.
  • Ask to see his portfolio.  Every educated, experienced photographer is not going to take the same photos.  You may love the style of one photographer, and absolutely hate the work of another with the same amount of education and experience.  Make sure you ask to see his portfolio so that you know whether you like the kinds of shots he takes.
  • Ask people you know for referrals.  If someone you know has used a photographer and loved them, well, that’s about the best vote of confidence you can get.

Make sure you interview several photographers.  Then compare their answers before deciding which one to go with.  While it’s often tempting to go with the cheapest one that’ll do what you want, you should probably actually go with a photographer whose prices are more middle-of-the-road, indicating better quality than the cheapies, but not so much that you’ll be paying for it through the nose!

Getting Ahead at Collins College

June 22nd, 2008 by bCar

Any good college should provide the resources you need to succeed as a college student.  True to form, Collins College offers some great resources to make sure their students do well.

For instance, Collins offers the typical student resources, such as the library and resources that give students access to books, computers, and other things they may not have easy access to away from campus.  However, Collins also offer tutoring and mentor programs, which are less common.  These programs ensure that there should be no reason why their student’s can’t succeed, as they have all the help they could ever want — right at their fingertips.

A welcoming, supportive atmosphere is an important feature in a school, and new or returning students would do well to make this one of their main priorities when looking for a school.  It’s hard to foresee whether you’ll have a hard time in college, but many people — especially returning students — find the expectations difficult to adjust to.  Others simply need help getting through certain classes or even understanding specific concepts.  Make sure you don’t attend a school that is unforgiving of students who have problems — you want to be sure that you’ll always have the support you need to get ahead.

Reviewing the Drawbacks and Benefits of Online Education

May 2nd, 2008 by Best

Students who are considering getting their college degree online will have to consider whether the benefits of online education outweigh the potential problems of completing college through this method.

The most commonly cited benefits of online education include:

  • Scheduling flexibility. This is great for people who need to work and go to school at the same time.
  • Distance education. People may not want to relocate in order to attend a college with a degree program that interests them.
  • Sense of responsibility. An organized person can complete this kind of education through their own self-motivation and feel good about themselves as a result.

The most commonly cited drawbacks of online education include:

  • The need for self-motivation. There won’t be a teacher there nagging you to get your work done.
  • Lack of a community. Sometimes it’s easier to get school done when others are there doing it with you.
  • Concerns about credibility. People are afraid that professionals won’t be satisfied with an online degree.

To reduce the drawbacks of using online degree programs, you’ll want to make sure to select a program that has a history of working with students to resolve these problems. For example, AIU Online Education is an established program with an online community that can help you to work through the problems of attending school online.

The Education / Career Cycle

April 22nd, 2008 by Best

Students who are just starting out in college often have a career goal in mind. They are going to school specifically to get a degree that will allow them to end up in that career. As time goes on, most students realize that their education is not only a means to an end. The smart individual will always engage in a continuing education / work cycle which allows regular goal-setting and the achievement of constantly changing goals.

The student does initially enter college to gain the skills necessary for a particular career. After starting that career, he often realizes that he would’ve done much better in school after he’d gained some of the on-the-job experience which he now has. This frequently compels him to return to school to get a second degree - either in another field or at an advanced level in the same field. The work experience he has assists him in getting more out of the education the second time around.

In turn, the new degree will allow him to go forward with his career in new ways. Even after obtaining a final degree, the smart individual will continue to take classes and educate himself in his field of study. Each new bit of this education will assist him in improving his work. Each year that passes in the career will allow him to gain a better understanding of the new things that he learns. Students are not designed to be stagnant; education is an ongoing, dynamic experience!
